On the corner of Terengganu Street and Sago Street, the Chinatown Complex houses one of the most boisterous wet markets in the city, where a bewildering variety of fresh produce is on sale, including fruit, vegetables, and seafood. The most startling meat and fish, including freshly skinned frogs, is on sale in the mornings. Above the wet market are stalls offering silk sarongs, jade jewelry, DVDs, and more.

Next door is Sago Street, named for its factories that once produced sago, starchy granules obtained from palm. The street was also infamous for its “Death House,” hospices where the terminally ill came to die. Today, rattan mat-makers and paper kite sellers operate here.
