Sentosa Island was once called Balakang Mati, which means “behind the dead” in Malay. One of the theories about the origins of this name speaks of a mysterious disease that claimed the lives of nearly all the original settlers. The British used the island as a military base until 1967. Today, Sentosa, which means “peace” in Malay, has been transformed into a recreational playground with attractions that include museums, historical sights, theme parks, nature trails, and sporting activities. All the sights can be reached by the island’s monorail, beach trams, or internal bus network. Sentosa has two major hotels as well as chalets.

Sentosa’s Songs of the Sea

This musical extravaganza on Silosa Beach features giant water screens, spectacular pyrotechnics, a live cast, and an open-air viewing gallery.

Fort Siloso

The last bastion of the British during World War II, this fort was built in the 1880s and is an intriguing complex of bunkers, cannons, and underground passageways.

Images of Singapore

Using lifelike wax figures, this museum showcases Singapore’s diverse cultures and explores the country’s unique history.

Sentosa Express

A monorail network, Sentosa Express links Harbor Front, Vivocity, and St James Powerhouse MRT stations on the mainland to Beach and Imbiah stations. It also links sights within the island.

Dolphin Lagoon

Visitors can observe dolphins at training and feeding times, and can wade in for a closer look during “Meet-the-Dolphin” sessions.

Palawan Beach

A suspension bridge links Palawan Beach to a small islet that is believed to be the southernmost tip of continental Asia.

The Sentosa Golf Club

The Sentosa Golf Club has two 18-hole championship golf courses and excel-lent facilities including chipping and putting greens, as well as a pro shop.
