In this modern era, Singapore as tiny island often appears to have sold its Asian soul for a western lifestyle. At one glance, Singapore is well developed and westernized, with shopping malls, Starbucks, McDonald, and international banks all around the corners. However, if you spend some time to pause and have a closer look, Singapore’s traditional culture is well alive and well beneath in the society. As you may aware, Singapore is a multiracial country, there are Chinese, Malays, Indians, Arabs, Armenians, Bugis, British, various Europeans, Eurasians and many more. This ethnic diversity not only makes Singapore a colorful country but at the same time, the cultural and meaningful traditions from each race are well-maintained.

Singapore has always been striving to balance between keeping the multiracial colorful cultures and focus firmly on the future development. From the view point of economy, import and export, tourism, education and research and development, Singapore is well prepared to be the host of world class events and businesses. For example, there are 2 world class casino complexes, Marina Bay Sands and Resort World Sentosa.  Maintaning the culture, heritage and nature are also the country’s top priorities. There are the award-winning Singapore Zoo and Night Safari, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and all sorts of festival celebrations from different races.

With the diverse ethnic groups in Singapore, you will find a variety of local foods that must not be missed. Hawker centres are widely popular among the locals and you’ll get to try out the traditional recipes that are passed down from generation to generation which are still preserved till today. Hawker centres at Tiong Bahru market, Maxwell Road, Old Airport Road and Chinatown Complex are a few that must be visited. You will be amazed by the selection of foods that are offered.

Singapore is made up of 1 main island and surrounded by around 60 smaller islands like Sentosa, Pulau Ubin, Kusu, and St. John’s Island which are famous for retreats. Singapore main island is shaped like a diamond. It is merely about 42km from east to west and about 23km from north to south. When it comes to land area, it is shockingly tiny which is only 693 sq.km. However, with good planning and leadership from the Singapore government, it has developed from a small fishing village into a city in the gardens today. As a Singaporean, we are always proud of this effort and results from our pioneers.

Although with a small land area, the attractions in Singapore are still as attractive as other countries around the world. Below is a list of attractions that you should not miss when you visit Singapore.
